Biography
I bought my first Afghan in 1967, a black masked silver male that I named "Hombre". Although he was not a show quality animal, I took him to some puppy matches and shows and became hooked on dog shows.

In 1969 I married my husband Bob and moved to the San Francisco Peninsula. While attending shows in the area I discovered the Coastwind dogs and was fascinated by the beauty of that bloodline. Eventually we purchased a litter sister (Amy) to Ch Coastwind Abraxas and a first cousin (Spring), from Judy Bloom. Amy never finished due to Cushing's disease, but Spring became our first champion. Her Reg'd. name was Am. Can. Ch. Jubilan's Second Spring and she was the mother of our first litter born in 1974. Thus began the Zafara Kennel, with four American Champions and two Canadian Champions including multi. BIS and Specialty winning Ch. Zafara Brother Love. That litter was sired by Ch. Coastwind Abraxas. Along the way, Coastwind gave us Abraxas's mother, Ch. Coastwind Ouija. She along with Spring became our foundation.

Never a prolific kennel, Zafara has produced 30 plus Afghan Champions of our own, plus five from other kennels. We have also dabbled in Salukis, finishing two and breeding three Champions from our only litter. We currently have Whippets and have done a few co-breedings which have produced seven Champions.

I obtained my Afghan judging licence in 1987 and Saluki licence in 1997. I have judged all over the United States, including many specialties and the Afghan Hound Club of America National Specialty. I have also judged twice in Canada, New Zealand, the Afghan Hound Club of New South Wales, Australia, and the Queensland Afghan Hound Club twice.
